Design & Display

The iPhone X really looks good. It is a gorgeous bezel-less smartphone. The display is bright, colorful and seems to have tighter lamination than other the other iPhones we have seen. Like all the latest Apple phones, this phone does not have a headphone jack.

Apple iPhone X design

This is the first iPhone using an OLED display. All the previous iPhones feature LCD displays.  The OLED panel on the iPhone X has been manufactured by Samsung but the company insists that it was engineered and designed by Apple.  The display is bright, sharp and vibrant. “Apple True Tone” technology automatically adjusts its brightness and color temperature depending on the surrounding.

Unfortunately, there is notch at the top of the display. In addition, most of the available IOS apps do not utilize the whole display.  Only a few apps have been updated to fit the iPhone X’s screen.

Hardware, Software & Performance

This smartphone runs on iOS 11. The iPhone X comes with the A11 Bionic chipset. This chipset has been designed to handle all the heavy tasks that you may want to put your phone through.  A11 Bionic chipset is capable of handles the AR sensor and the extra pixels on the display of the iPhone X.  This chipset also help to improve battery life because it is very power efficient.  The new chipset improves the overall performance of this phone. The iPhone X is no doubt the most powerful phone in the world at the moment.

The cameras on the iPhone X are almost the same as the cameras found on the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. Wide angle and telephoto lenses have optical image stabilization (only the wide angle lens in the iPhone 8 has this feature).  The front camera can capture portrait mode selfieas thanks to the TrueDepth System.

One notable feature of the front camera of the iPhone X is its ability to take Animoji. These are animated emoji characters. Read more about Animoji here.

Face ID

Another notable feature of the iPhone X is Face ID.  This is a system that allows you to unlock your smartphone through face recognition.  This phone does not have a fingerprint sensor.  Face ID is the reason why Apple ditched the fingerprint scanner.  The Face ID works great most of the time.  Setting up this features is easy. In fact setting it up is much easier than setting up touch identification on the iPhone 8 and earlier iPhones.

Apple iPhone X Pros & Cons

  • Stunning display
  • Face ID is a cool feature that works well most of the time

  • Jaw dropping performance

  • It’s costly
  • Awkward notch at the top the screen
  • Face ID occasionally fails to work as expected
